Located about 50 miles west of Baton Rouge, Opelousas is internationally renown as the Zydeco Capitol of the World, the Spice Capitol of the World, and the third oldest city in Louisiana, founded in 1720. Lately it is generating excitement for their newly renovated downtown landmark, the Delta Grand Theatre. Originally opened as a movie theater in the 1920’s, the Delta Grand has survived several decades and undergone numerous new lives. Over the years, the theater had been reinvented for many purposes but continued to deteriorate. Happily, what was once a problem nightspot is now the area’s newest gem in Opelousas’ downtown historic district.
St Landry Parish Government purchased the Delta Grand last year for about half a million dollars and inside renovation work was non-stop ever since. With an expanded stage the new venue is now being used as a Performance Arts Center, reception hall and temporary offsite campus for Our Savior’s Church weekend services. The Delta Grand’s latest season of entertainment has hit the ground running, already hosting performances featuring the Opelousas Little Theater’s musical-play “Jekyll & Hyde”, the Spice & Music Festival’s Fiddle Jam and the Cajun Comedy Tour.
When the parish sought a local expert to design and install the new audio video system, Vince Sauro of Accurate Sound Design in Lafayette, LA was ready to answer the call. The project required a powerful, accurate and compact audio system with exceptional clarity and vocal presence capable of handling the diverse variety of performances to be held at the new facility. Sauro selected the OAP VS8-Series Professional Compact Line Array Loudspeaker System, meeting all acoustic issues, architectural aesthetics and the project’s budget constraints.
We chose the OAP VS8-Series because of its consistently fabulous sound quality and impressive acoustic imaging. Another particularly great feature of the OAP VS8 System is the aesthetically designed removable decorative side panels that totally conceal all the proprietary hardware from view.
